Telephone Services

CIT provides reliable voice communication services for faculty, staff, students, and campus partners. We manage and maintain the College’s telephone system, including repairs, moves, adds, and changes for administrative offices. CIT Telephone Services also handles service billing.

If you are experiencing issues with your telephone service, would like to request a new line, or need to relocate an existing line, please submit a service request.

Campus Telephones

  • Must remain operational at all times - someone looking for a telephone to dial 911 should never find a non-working phone in a time of need.

  • Should only be moved by CIT - we must keep Livingston County 911 updated with the location of every phone on campus. It would be a disaster if emergency services were to respond to the wrong location because emergency responders were not updated.

  • Bring our Giant-Voice emergency notification into our buildings. They must be functional to be an effective part of our emergency communications plan.

  • Do provide a sense of safety and comfort to the members of our community as they move around our campus.

Speech and Hearing Impaired Telephone Service

The New York Relay Service allows telephone communications between hearing-impaired or speech-impaired individuals and hearing individuals. An operator acts as a go-between for the two parties to aid them in communicating with each other. There is a Text Telephone (also known as TDD) located in the University Police Office. TDDs are also available from CIT for installation in employee offices only. For further information, please contact the CIT HelpDesk at 585-245-5588 or email helpdesk@geneseo.edu.

How to Handle Harassing or Unsolicited Telemarketing Calls

  • Avoid saying anything and calmly hang up. Don't discuss the call with anyone, as harassing callers are usually an acquaintance.

  • Record the time, date, and phone number if caller ID is available on your phone, as this will assist University Police in tracing the call.

  • Never provide credit card information, social security numbers, passwords or other sensitive information over the phone.

  • If calls continue, contact University Police. University Police is responsible for investigating all telephone calls that are made with the intent to annoy, harass, threaten, alarm or engage in fraudulent activity.

  • Register your campus office phone number on the national Do Not Call registry to stop unwanted telemarketing calls.
