Windows Installation Instructions
- Download the official Pharos_Win_8.2.1.100.zip asset archive via the software download portal.
- Locate the downloaded folder, right-click the zipped package, and choose "Extract All" to fully unpack the payload.
- Open the extracted
PharosSecure_Win_8.2.1.100 directory.
- Double-click the
PrintScout-Pharos_8.2.1.100.msi installer file to begin configuration.
- Note: Do not isolate, rename, or move the
InstallConfig.ini or PrinterDriver.zip files prior to script completion.
- Progress through the system on-screen prompts, maintaining all default path settings to conclude setup.
- If a secondary window labeled Print Scout Configuration loads on display completion, it can safely be closed.
- Open your Windows Printers & Scanners operating dashboard menu and assign the newly added Pharos Secure Printer profile as your primary system default printer.
- You may now open your target application workspace and send documents directly to the global release queue.
macOS Installation Instructions
- Download the official PharosPrint_Mac_3.6.1.zip package resource from the web repository.
- Ensure you select the downward-facing action arrow pinned to the upper-left management boundary to force local target path saving.
- Double-click the downloaded
PharosPrint_Mac_3.6.1.zip archive in your local folder path to cleanly expand its contents.
- Access the newly unzipped
PharosPrint_Mac_3.6.1 workspace directory.
- Double-click the
MacPrintScoutInstaller.pkg package file to initiate the macOS software installer manager routine.
- Note: Do not isolate, alter, or remove the companion
InstallConfig.ini or PrinterDriver.tar support configurations beforehand.
- Follow all onboarding screen parameters, accepting baseline destination options to lock the secure print spooler to the system.
Linux Installation Instructions
⚠️ Support Notice: CIT does not officially maintain or support Linux system distributions. Desktop engineers cannot supply technical assistance or troubleshooting validation workflows for Linux devices.
The following distribution variants are validated by the platform vendor:
- Ubuntu 18.04 (64-bit), Ubuntu 20.04 (64-bit), and Ubuntu 22.04 environment bases
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 architecture (64-bit)
The Linux software package footprint runs with restricted utility capabilities compared to Windows and macOS core engines. It sets up an isolated destination spool queue designated explicitly as Secure-Printer. The installer completely bypasses configuration hooks for the Pharos Secure Release Desktop Utility App and the guided Setup Assistant. To authenticate, track, or adjust pending document lists, you must leverage the specialized Pharos Secure Release Mobile App, manage properties from an adjacent Windows/macOS workspace, or log in via physical badge swipe directly at a campus multifunction print station console.
- Download the core package bundle archive SUNYGeneseo_LinuxPrintScout.zip.
- Decompress the package archive asset and access the resulting
SUNYGeneseo_LinuxPrintScout file space.
- Ubuntu Linux Architectures: Initialize the installation string by executing the following terminal script command string:
dpkg -i openid-print-scout_2.1.0_amd64.deb
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux Architectures: Force compilation using the following system deployment script line string:
rpm -i openid-print-scout_2.1.0_amd64.rpm
- Upon deployment cleanup, a print route target variable called Secure-Printer will register as active and available for use inside the system printer preferences console.
Troubleshooting
If you mistakenly wipe the print queue route map or if the targeted routing variables vanish entirely, complete a standard device system reboot cycle. When your session starts up again, the background automation script will self-verify and automatically recreate missing virtual printer queues.
Windows Uninstall/Reinstall Pharos
- On a personal device, proceed to Step 2. On a university-owned machine, open the MakeMeAdmin system app to elevate your active account profile context to full Administrator status first.
- To correct systemic registry fault variables, you must completely purge the system folder profile using the native cleaner application. Using your File Explorer interface, navigate directly to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\PharosSystems\PrintScout\
- Locate and execute the designated cleanup tool executable (labeled either
cleaner.exe or MsiCleaner.exe). A dark Windows Command Terminal panel will spin up on your desktop interface to sweep system registries. This sequence may lock for several minutes while it cleans files.
- Once the administrative console automatically clears and closes out, immediately perform a system restart cycle.
- Upon reload, execute the setup file bundle sequence using the above Windows setup instructions.
- If launching the installer prompt presents a singular screen offering only a "Remove" command selection toggle, select it. This indicates residual application components are still anchored in background paths. Let the automated removal wizard complete, then rerun the primary installer configuration once more.
Mac Computers
If general profile modifications fail to correct print job spool crashes, macOS users must entirely clean and reset the native device printing subsystem engine or explicitly wipe the supporting application files.
Reset Printing Subsystem
Step-by-step procedures to flush the print cache can be tracked using Apple's official database instructions: Apple Support - Reset Print Systems on Mac Platforms. Doing this completely purges all historical hardware printers currently registered to your workstation profile layout.
Uninstalling/Reinstalling on a College-Owned Device
- Launch the local university-managed Privileges client tool app and submit your password parameter check string to safely elevate your profile status to full administrative authorization.
- Click the system Magnifying Glass icon located within the top menu bar space to prompt a local desktop Spotlight Search query, then locate and open the CIT Self Service utility application workspace.
- Locate the Pharos Print package asset entry, but DO NOT immediately engage the primary execution button. Instead, click explicitly on the main **Pharos Print application logo image element** to expand the hidden text area containing manual system cleanup requirements.
- Once the manual clearing verification phase registers as complete, select the prominent Reinstall toggle option nested beneath the asset logo. The software routine will rebuild cleaner package scripts and fix lingering document submission issues.
Uninstalling/Reinstalling on a Personal Device
- Navigate up to your primary system Finder menu controls, expand the drop-down listing item marked Go, and select the specific "Go to Folder..." action variable option block. Enter the path line exactly as followed, then press Return:
/Library/Application Support/Pharos/PrintScout
- Locate the application module labeled
Uninstall.app embedded within the destination directory folder structure, and double-click it to run the automated uninstallation program routine.
- Once the deletion script registers a clean, successful confirmation state notification, rerun the primary execution setup bundle steps to reinstall the print scout module tool asset.
