Sponsored accounts (sometimes called generic accounts) are Geneseo accounts created to be use for a specific purpose (like a shared mailbox or performing automated actions for a service) or for people unaffiliated with Geneseo that need an account (like vendors). The accounts are called "sponsored" because they are requested and managed by a Geneseo person (employee or student). We broadly categorize these accounts in three groups:
- Sponsored: These are used by departments for a purpose, like a shared mailbox, or recognized student organizations as their email. Most sponsored accounts fall under this category unless they are one of the other two listed below.
- Service: Service accounts have their username prefixed with svc- and they are used by systems to perform automated actions where a user account is required.
- Courtesy: These accounts are for people that are part of a department but are not faculty, staff, or volunteers (i.e. interns). These accounts are typically created for vendors who need access to Geneseo systems.
You can request a new sponsored account using the Request New Sponsored Account button on the right. For email only accounts, CIT recommends using delegation for accessing the account. You can change delegation for a sponsored account using the Change Sponsored Account Delegation button. If you have a sponsored account you no longer need, please use the Disable Sponsored Account button to request the account be disabled.
