Using Jamf Connect to gain temporary administrative rights on your Apple computer

Jamf Connect is replacing Privileges on Geneseo-managed Macs to manage administrator rights. Operating as a standard user for day-to-day tasks is a vital security best practice that protects your Mac. When you do need temporary admin privileges, you can now quickly request them by clicking the "G" icon in your Menu Bar.

 

Before You Start

Jamf Connect is only available on your machine if it is a CIT-managed endpoint (i.e. you are a faculty or staff member).

 

Steps to gain administrative rights with Jamf Connect

  • Click on the “G” icon that is located in your Menu Bar.

  • To gain administrative rights, click Request Admin Privileges in the menu.

  • You will be asked for your Geneseo Username and Password.

  • It will now ask you why you need administrative rights. Select the option that matches your action.

  • That's it! Your account now has administrative rights. You can see how long you will have administrative rights on the Menu Bar next to the “G” icon.

Steps to remove administrative rights with Privileges

  • To End Admin Privileges, click on the “G” icon from the Menu Bar and select End Admin Privileges.
