Enable or Disable Pop-ups in Common Browsers

Body

Many essential sites, including learning platforms like BizLibrary and Brightspace and various software installers, require pop-ups to work correctly.

This guide shows you how to enable or disable pop-ups in major browsers, or allow them only for specific websites.

Google Chrome

Enable or Disable Pop-ups

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Select the three-dot menu (⋮) in the upper-right corner.
  3. Choose Settings.
  4. Select Privacy and security.
  5. Click Site Settings.
  6. Select Pop-ups and redirects.
  7. Choose one of the following:
    • Don't allow sites to send pop-ups or use redirects (recommended)
    • Sites can send pop-ups and use redirects

 

Allow Pop-ups for Specific Websites

  1. Go to Settings → Privacy and security → Site Settings → Pop-ups and redirects.
  2. Under Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects, select Add.
  3. Enter the website address and select Add.

Microsoft Edge

Enable or Disable Pop-ups

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Select the three-dot menu (...) in the upper-right corner.
  3. Choose Settings.
  4. Select Privacy, search, and services.
  5. Choose Site permissionsAll permissions.
  6. Select Pop-ups and redirects.
  7. Turn Blocked (recommended) on or off.  

 

Allow Pop-ups for Specific Websites

  1. Open Pop-ups and redirects settings.
  2. Under Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects, select Add.
  3. Enter the website URL and select Add.

Mozilla Firefox

Enable or Disable Pop-ups

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Select the menu button (☰).
  3. Choose Settings.
  4. Select Privacy & Security.
  5. Scroll to the Permissions section.
  6. Check or uncheck Block pop-up windows.  

Allow Pop-ups for Specific Websites

  1. Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions.
  2. Select Exceptions next to Block pop-up windows.
  3. Enter the website address.
  4. Select Allow and then Save Changes.

Safari (macOS)

Enable or Disable Pop-ups

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Select SafariSettings (or Preferences on older versions).
  3. Select the Websites tab.
  4. Choose Pop-up Windows from the left pane.
  5. Use the drop-down menu beside a website to:
    • Allow
    • Block
    • Block and Notify
  6. Set a default behavior for all websites using the When visiting other websites option at the bottom of the window.  

 

Allow Pop-ups for Specific Websites

  1. Visit the website.
  2. Open Safari → Settings → Websites → Pop-up Windows.
  3. Set the website to Allow
